First practical exam

29/01/06
Our first practical exam for the NVQ advanced apprenticeship, was to manualy calculate flash using guide numbers and distance with the Hasselblad 503CW and Metz flashgun. On our submission we had to include the negatives with our prints and all tasks were given task numbers which had to be written on the negatives.
The task number was supposed to be written on the rebates between frames, but due to the way my film had advanced there wasn't enough room, instead I wrote on the bottom edge of the film. Rather than writing the task number and then the negative number, as it was already there, I wrote the task number in front of the negative number.
For this I was awarded a credit, I was marked down due to an error in the clerical side of my submission. As I didn't write down the negative number on top of the negative number it was argued that it would be difficult to identify a specific frame.
I wouldn't go as far as to say the assessors are anal, pedantic or pretentious...but it came across that way.
